Ramtron Announces F-RAM Memory Module for Use with the Popular Freescale Tower System

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — September 12, 2012 — Ramtron International Corporation (Nasdaq: RMTR), a leading developer and supplier of nonvolatile ferroelectric random access memory (F-RAM) and integrated semiconductor products, today announced immediate availability of its new F-RAM memory module (TWR-FRAM) that is compatible for use with Freescale Semiconductor’s popular Tower System development platform. Populated with a superset of Ramtron F-RAM core memory and integrated products, the TWR-FRAM offers engineers that develop with Freescale’s ARM® Cortex™-based Kinetis® and i.MX, ColdFire®, PowerQUICC™, QorIQ®, and other microcontroller and microprocessor solutions an easy-to-use platform to demonstrate, evaluate, and develop Ramtron’s F-RAM into their design solutions.

Ramtron F-RAM core memory and integrated products are ideal for applications that require high data integrity and ultra-low power consumption — aligning perfectly with Freescale’s target markets in automotive, industrial, enabling technologies and networking. F-RAM inherently features high endurance, fast single-cycle and symmetrical read/write speeds, low energy consumption, gamma radiation tolerance, and immunity to electromagnetic noise. The TWR-FRAM is designed to allow users to develop with Ramtron’s complete product line; offering core memory products up to 8 megabits and choice of memory interface (SPI, I2C, or parallel), as well as Ramtron’s processor companions, state savers, and an interface to Ramtron’s wireless memory products, such as the WM72016-6-EVAL, sold separately.

Pricing and Availability

Ramtron’s TWR-FRAM memory module is in stock and immediately available worldwide from Future Electronics, Digi-Key, and Mouser Electronics. The TWR-FRAM is also available for order from other Ramtron/Freescale mutually authorized distributors (such as Alltek, Tokyo Electron Devices, WT Micro, and Farnell). While specifically developed using Freescale’s Kinetis K53 Tower System kit (TWR-K53N512-KIT), the TWR-FRAM module is designed to work as a peripheral module with any Freescale Tower System controller or processor module, forming a complete Tower System assembly. All code and example project files for the TWR-FRAM are built for use with IAR® Embedded Workbench and Keil® µVision4 evaluation-licensed development tools, which are included in the Freescale Tower System development platform and downloadable fromwww.iar.com and www.keil.com. Download more information and TWR-FRAM development tools fromwww.ramtron.com/go/TWR-FRAM. A high-resolution product photo of the TWR-FRAM is available fromwww.ramtron.com/press-center/image-bank.aspx. (Select TWR-FRAM from pull-down menu).

The suggested resale price for the TWR-FRAM is $99USD.

About the Freescale Tower System

The Freescale Tower System is a modular development platform that helps developers quickly prototype and evaluate their applications. Designers can choose from a growing ecosystem of controller and peripheral modules. Simply select the development boards (modules) with the needed features and functionality, and combine them to build a Tower System. In addition, standardized, open-source hardware allows Freescale customers and partners to design additional modules for added functionality and customization. Online training, videos, webcast, technical documentation and application notes are available at http://www.freescale.com/tower.
