JTAG Technologies Introduces ‘SCIP’ for In-System Programming

Eindhoven, the Netherlands, June 27, 2010 — JTAG Technologies, a leading world-wide provider of board test and device programming tools based chiefly on IEEE Std 1149.x, has broadened its portfolio by offering device programming solutions for an array of serial bus types, including SMBus, SPI, I2C and MicroWire.

Classified by their Serial Controlled IC Programmer (SCIP) grouping, JTAG Technologies is pleased to announce an unrivalled range of support for the in-system programming of devices from the world’s leading silicon vendors. SCIP has solved several difficulties.

Whilst many highly integrated microprocessors, DSPs and CPLDs use the JTAG (IEEE Std. 1149 or 1532) Test Access Port as the interface to program internal flash memory, some devices use non-standard instructions and protocols for the communication. What’s more, other, generally smaller footprint, devices may use a different physical interface entirely; one that often uses fewer pins than the standard boundary-scan four or five pin TAP.

To enable manufacturers of PCBs using multi-vendor, multi-protocol processors JTAG Technologies leveraged existing knowledge of serial programming via regular JTAG to support busses such as SMBus, SPI, I2C and MicroWire.

So that users can modify existing hardware to cope with the various different  programming interfaces JTAG Technologies have added further modules to their existing ‘SCIL’ (Scan Configurable Interface Logic) range. The new range of SCIL modules are supplied as ‘swappable’ interfaces that can convert JTAG DataBlaster hardware (eg JT 37×7 or JT 3710) into a protocol-specific device programmer or tester.

One early user, of SCIP and SCIL components works in the manufacture and test of advanced automotive engine management systems (ECUs) in the UK: “Using JTAG Technologies’ products has allowed us to refine our ISP tools and greatly simplify test fixtures. Integrating the SCIL module onto our Agilent Pin Card was straightforward and allowed us to control programming steps via a 3070 TestPlan. We anticipate cost reductions that our customers greatly appreciate.”

Lattice and Affarii Technologies Offer Complete Remote Radio Head Hardware Solution For Wireless Infrastructure

HILLSBORO, OR — JUNE 29, 2010 — Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) today announced that it has partnered with Affarii Technologies to successfully demonstrate the industry’s lowest cost, low power Remote Radio Head (RRH) solution at 1300mW per antenna.  The integration of all RRH processing has been achieved on a single LatticeECP3™-150 device, part of Lattice’s award-winning, high value LatticeECP3 FPGA family.  The single chip solution supports 2×2 MIMO configurations for WCDMA, LTE and WiMAX applications and is part of an overall RRH hardware evaluation platform jointly developed by Lattice and Affarii.  The platform is comprised of the RF front-end, high-speed data conversion devices and the digital signal processing portion.  The functionality of the full signal path package includes DDC/DUC, DPD, CFR and CPRI IP cores, supports multi-carrier waveforms up to 20MHz bandwidth and is compatible with Class AB and Doherty amplifiers using LDMOS and GaN transistors.

“We are pleased to partner with Lattice Semiconductor to offer a low cost, low power integrated RRH platform,” said Shane Flint, Founder and CEO of Affarii.  “Lattice has responded to the needs of our mutual wireless infrastructure customers who are interested in using industry leading FPGA/DSP processing solutions.”

“Our partnership with Affarii has yielded an RRH solution that will dramatically reduce cost and power for wireless infrastructure manufacturers,” said Ron Warner, Lattice’s Marketing Manager for Wireless Infrastructure.  “By working with Affarii, Lattice continues to deliver on our commitment to provide our customers with innovative, proven solutions that meet the industry’s demands for low cost and low power.”

All features of this RRH solution, both hardware and soft IP, are fully integrated and supported by Lattice’s latest generation of design tools.

About the Affarii RRH Solution

The RRH solution is built using Affarii’s digitalTRX technology that includes Digital Up/Down Converter (DUC/DDC), Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) and Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) functionality.  When used with industry standard Doherty amplifiers the Digital Pre-distortion solution provides up to 30dB of ACLR correction with PA output efficiencies exceeding 40%, allowing flexible and efficient RRH designs.  The solution is fully customizable, with end applications including WCDMA, LTE, WiMAX, and DVB-T/S/H.

The RRH solution is supported by a development and test environment that includes GUI-based design simulation, performance analysis and a production test API with design examples.
