STMicroelectronics New 64-Bit Microprocessor, Now Available from Mouser, Enables Advanced and Secure Edge AI Applications

November 4, 2024 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., the authorized global distributor with the newest electronic components and industrial automation products, is now stocking the STM32MP25 microprocessors (MPU) from STMicroelectronics. The STM32MP25 MPUs are industrial-grade 64-bit solutions for secure Industry 4.0/5.0 and advanced edge computing applications that require high-end multimedia capabilities, such as factory automationartificial intelligence (AI), machine vision, smart homessmart cities and infrastructure.

The STM32MP25 MPUs are based on a high-performance single or dual-core Arm® Cortex®-A35 64-bit RISC core operating at up to 1.5 GHz. The devices also embed a Cortex-M33 32-bit RISC core operating at up to 400 MHz frequency. In addition, there is a graphics processor (GPU), a neural processor (NPU), and a video processor (VPU). AI workloads can run on the CPU, GPU, or NPU, depending on processor loading and application demands, for optimal performance and energy efficiency. The high efficiency of these MPUs permits system designs to go without active cooling, gaining advantages such as smaller size, silent operation, greater reliability, and reduced power consumption. The 3D GPU supports up to 1080p displays, and the powerful multimedia features include a full-HD video pipeline with parallel LVDS and DSI interfaces. Together with a MIPI CSI-2 camera interface with ISP, these enhance support for cutting-edge machine-vision applications.

The STM32MP25 includes a wide range of interfaces, including up to three Gigabit Ethernet ports with a 2-port switch and support for Ethernet time-sensitive networking (TSN). There are also PCIe Gen2, USB 3.0, and up to three CAN-FD interfaces that ease integration in a wide variety of communication and control applications.

The STM32MP25 devices leverage ST’s proprietary secure hardware, anti-tamper controls, protected firmware, and secure provisioning, working with Arm’s TrustZone® architecture to keep sensitive data and keys secret.

The STM32MP257F-EV1 evaluation board, also available to order from Mouser, offers a complete demonstration and development platform for the STM32MP25 MPUs. The evaluation board features and onboard debugger/programmer a broad portfolio of connection and expansion options, enabling the user to test the capabilities of the STM32MP25 in a wide range of applications.
