STMicroelectronics breaks down barriers to edge AI adoption with free NanoEdge AI deployment

Geneva, Switzerland, December 6, 2023 – STMicroelectronics is extending its commitment to the rapid adoption of AI in devices that people use everywhere and every day. The company announces that the deployment of software libraries built with its flagship design tool, NanoEdge AI Studio, will now become free for unlimited deployment on any STM32 microcontrollers.

As NanoEdge AI Studio targets all Arm® Cortex®-M based microcontrollers (MCUs), clients will now also be able to build and deploy highly efficient machine learning libraries, including unique on-device learning, on other Arm Cortex-M microcontrollers under special license agreement.

These moves are a testimony of ST’s commitment to accelerate the adoption of edge AI solutions and empower more individuals and organizations to benefit from it.

“Our goal is to ensure that accurate, power-efficient AI algorithms can be built to run on resource-constrained edge computing devices as easily, quickly, and cost-effectively as possible,” said Remi El Ouazzane, President Microcontrollers and Digital ICs Group, STMicroelectronics. “Today, we are taking another big step by allowing developers working in any Arm Cortex-M ecosystem to build and deploy their libraries on as many devices as they need, free of cost, to both them and their users, which we believe will spark innovation further.”

NanoEdge AI Studio simplifies and accelerates the creation of machine learning (ML) algorithms, facilitating anomaly detection, similarity recognition, classification, and prediction using advanced regression algorithms. The tool has won multiple industry awards for its ability to create very small-footprint ML libraries that can learn directly on the device, enabling predictive maintenance in complex environments.

Key features of upgraded NanoEdge AI Studio

As a major actor in the AI research community, STMicroelectronics has opened access to NanoEdge AI Studio to all STM32 but also to the rest of the embedded world by natively supporting most of the Arm Cortex-M-based MCUs on the market. Therefore, during project creation, users can take advantage of over 140 STM32 development boards and choose from more than 1,000 production-ready Arm Cortex-M MCUs from other providers.

ST has also upgraded NanoEdge AI Studio, introducing a new user experience that adds a step-by-step assistant to seamlessly help users through each phase of their project’s creation. The latest version, V4.3, includes an advanced validation tool that helps ensure the algorithms generated are of production quality.

NanoEdge AI Studio can now estimate ML model execution time with a 98% precision score for pre-selected targets to enrich the model report and help users make an informed choice for model selection.

NanoEdge AI Studio becomes free with the download of the new Edge AI Studio V4.3, which is available now.

Zonal Architecture: Making the Car of the Future Possible
Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Molex
In order to keep pace with the ever-increasing design concerns for the future of automotive designs, we need to consolidate ECUs, reduce harness size and complexity, and reduce our overall design cycle time. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Marcelino Hernandez from Molex and Amelia Dalton explore how Molex’ MX-DASH Portfolio will make zonal architecture implementation a reality for a variety of different automotive applications. They also investigate the trends pushing a need for zonal architectures in automotive designs and the benefits that this new approach to connectivity solutions can bring to your next automotive design.
