SOSA Aligned Development Platform Series from Elma Expanded to Include Midline CompacFrame

3U VPX mid-range platform accommodates up to eight cards with easy access for testing and development
Technology Highlights:
  • System development platform aligned with the SOSA™ Technical Standard, Edition 1.0
  • Up to eight air- or conduction-cooled slots for plug-in cards (PICs)
  • Tilted card cage for easier access and viewing
FREMONT, Calif., October 2021 – Elma Electronic Inc. is expanding its series of development platforms to include the 3U VPX mid-range CompacFrame that features up to eight slots. This larger platform is designed to accelerate the testing and development of plug-in cards (PICs) based on The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA), Edition 1.0, or any OpenVPX backplane.
“Now that the 1.0 release has been published, we expect to see an increased need for development systems aligned with the SOSA Technical Standard, said Ram Rajan, Sr. VP of Engineering with Elma Electronic Inc. “Developers will need a platform that offers easy access to test and design systems to meet Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) initiatives. The better viewing angle and large number of slots in the mid-range CompacFrame puts this functionality at their fingertips.”
This lightweight unit, available with either a 6- or an 8-slot backplane, is tilted upwards by 5° for better viewing and card access. The user front panel interface is designed for easy access and includes voltage LEDs, monitoring and test points as well as reset and power switches. An integrated carrying handle ensures portability.
The midrange CompacFrame features a 1,400 W ATX-style PSU to power up to the OpenVPX cards or SOSA PICs and an SMA connector for PNT (timing) card.
The unit is equipped to accommodate various combinations of plug-in card cooling schemes, including VITA 48.1 convection, VITA 48.2 conduction and VITA 48.8 air flow-through (AFT) method. An optional rear accessible VITA 46.11 compliant Chassis Manager is available on all units for board diagnostics.

Machine Learning on the Edge
Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Infineon
Edge machine learning is a great way to allow embedded devices to run applications that can collect sensor data and locally process that data. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Clark Jarvis from Infineon explore how the IMAGIMOB Studio, ModusToolbox™ Software, and PSoC and AURIX™ microcontrollers can help you develop a custom machine learning on the edge application from scratch. They also investigate how the IMAGIMOB Studio can help you easily develop and deploy AI/ML models and the benefits that the PSoC™ 6 Artificial Intelligence Evaluation Kit will bring to your next machine learning on the edge application design process.
