WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 28, 2025) – EqualAI, a nonprofit organization committed to promoting responsible AI governance, has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to deepen and broaden AI literacy across industries and communities. This initiative includes new resources and an expanded focus for EqualAI’s popular podcast, In AI We Trust?, co-hosted by EqualAI President and CEO Miriam Vogel and cultural and educational thought leader Rosalind Wiseman, who is renowned for her global work on leadership, education and interpersonal dynamics.
Through its new efforts, EqualAI aims to equip individuals, educators, policymakers, and organizations with the tools to confidently navigate AI technologies in their professional and personal lives. A centerpiece of this initiative is an in-depth AI literacy podcast series, which will feature prominent leaders in technology, education, and governance, such as Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD), danah boyd (founder of Data & Society), Mason Grimshaw (IndigiGenius), Judy Spitz (Break Through Tech), and others.
“Rosalind Wiseman and I are excited to share our conversations with AI policy leaders to discuss why they are focused on AI literacy, exploring how it can empower people to engage with AI confidently and make informed decisions on AI use,” said EqualAI President and CEO Miriam Vogel. “Each of these conversations explores the extraordinary opportunities unlocked by AI use, but also addresses the key variable: the transformative potential of AI depends on how well individuals, communities and institutions are prepared to understand and use it properly.”
“As technology changes how we learn, it is even more important for all of us to be AI literate,” said Rosalind Wiseman. “I am joining Equal AI in this collaboration because we are all in a dynamic relationship with this technology. It is essential that we understand its impact on our thinking, how we teach and are taught, and our capacity to critique the information it gives us. All of this leads to an essential truth – as AI is increasingly present in our lives and influences our perspective on the world, it is even more important to develop the skills to competently and ethically manage our interactions with others. Equal AI has been at the forefront of this complex conversation and I am honored to be part of this new focus of its work.”
Key Features of EqualAI’s New AI Literacy Initiative:
- Expanded Podcast Series – In AI We Trust?
With a global audience, EqualAI’s podcast will now feature a special AI literacy series focusing on how AI impacts society and practical steps individuals and organizations can take to engage with it. Episodes will highlight cross-sector leaders offering insights on AI’s ethical use and benefits. - Centralized Educational Hub
EqualAI will create a resource hub on its website to provide educators, policymakers, and the public with trustworthy, up-to-date materials on AI literacy. These resources aim to empower communities with the knowledge to engage with AI effectively and responsibly. - Stakeholder Engagement & Convenings
In line with EqualAI’s mission to foster multi-stakeholder dialogue, the initiative will bring together experts from across fields to amplify AI literacy efforts, share best practices, and support broader AI adoption. - Workshops and Events
Building on its successful “Deep Dive” workshops for congressional staff, EqualAI will expand its programming to include events and training for diverse stakeholders. These gatherings will align AI literacy efforts and promote collaboration between policymakers, educators, and industry leaders.
AI Literacy’s Broader Implications
The new initiative reflects EqualAI’s commitment to advancing broader AI adoption. “These resources and conversations are designed to empower people with the knowledge and confidence to leverage AI safely and effectively,” said Vogel. “Our work emphasizes that informed communities are key to fostering ethical AI innovation.”
The initiative is supported in part by a grant from the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, enabling EqualAI to expand its reach and impact in advancing AI literacy.
