element14 Community poll on Industry 5.0

Poll offers insights into view on Industry 5.0 readiness

Chicago – April 18, 2024: Newark recently conducted an element14 Community poll to assess the industry’s current view on the predicted successor to Industry 4.0, i.e., “Industry 5.0”, which is a concept that asserts that robots and other machines will soon emerge to work comfortably alongside human beings by leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data.

The element14 Community poll results offered a number of useful insights that, overall, appear to indicate that, while Industry 5.0 is a valid concept, it is seen by some as premature.

For example, while a small percentage of respondents claimed that they are already involved in Industry 5.0 initiatives to some degree, a quarter of the respondents don’t see a transition occurring for another three to five years.

However, half of the poll respondents believe that Industry 5.0 is a concept that may never as currently envisaged be fully adopted as it doesn’t fully take into account the realities of Industry 4.0. That’s because Industry 4.0 is still in its relative infancy as manufacturers learn how to scale up and transition their operations to take advantage of the benefits of data analytics, AI, and machine learning. There is still a long way to go with Industry 4.0, but it is getting there relatively quickly.

“We are excited to unveil the findings from our recent element14 Community poll, shedding light on the industry’s perspectives regarding Industry 5.0. While the concept shows promise, our poll reveals a diverse range of opinions, suggesting that its widespread adoption might be premature for some,” said Andreea Teodorescu, Global Director of Product Marketing & element14 Community. “With a quarter of respondents projecting a transition timeline of three to five years and others express skepticism about its feasibility, it’s evident that Industry 4.0 remains a pivotal focus for many.”
