Electronics Europe and TES jointly announce the availability of GUIliani for Renesas’ SuperH-based SH7724 microcontroller family

Dusseldorf, August 24, 2011 – Renesas Electronics Europe and its Alliance Partner TES Electronic Systems today announced the availability of the software package based on TES’ GUIliani, a solution for graphical user interfaces on embedded systems, for Renesas’ MS7724 microcontroller (MCU) platform. GUIliani allows the fast and easy development of high quality graphical user interfaces and human machine interfaces (HMI).

The SH7724 is the latest MCU from Renesas Electronics’ successful SuperH lineup. Based on the SH4A core, the SH7724 device operates at 500MHz, delivering 900DMIPS and 3.5GFLOPS of performance. It features high performance hardware video processing and graphics acceleration allowing up to 720p video at 30fps, and an integrated LCD control unit. It is the flagship product at the high end of the SuperH portfolio.

The SH7724 MCU is targeted at several HMI application areas such as:

  • Industrial – With the SH7724 device also offering industrial temperature specification, the market is easily addressable with this solution.
  • Video conference system / security systems – Featuring Ethernet and video support, such applications are easily achievable using the SH7724 device.
  • Portable navigation – Where the quality of the GUI is often the key selling point of the application.
  • In-home display for metering – Where a superior GUI can be the key to consumer acceptance.

GUIliani is TES’ solution for graphical user interfaces on embedded systems. It combines the convenience of a PC based development tool-chain with the benefits of a highly-optimized software framework specifically designed for use in embedded hardware platforms such as Renesas Electronics’ SH7724 MCU. Together, the solution allows users to create stunning graphical HMIs easily, and literally in minutes.

GUIliani and the MS7724 together provide many benefits, including:

  • Portability: GUIliani is operating system independent. It supports any OS the customer chooses or even no OS at all.
  • Performance: Designed for embedded applications, GUIliani requires very little memory and CPU performance.
  • Customisability: GUIliani allows the framework to be fully tailored to suit the needs of the application.

GUIliani is also fully flexible and scalable across a range of platforms.

Robert Kalman, Manager MCU Marketing V850/SuperH, Industrial Business Group, Renesas Electronics Europe, commented: “What impresses me most about the GUIliani software is the speed at which customers can achieve a complete working solution. Customers looking for fast time to market and a spectacular looking GUI should look no further than the GUIliani software package.”

TES is pleased to support the Renesas Electronics MS7724 MCU reference platform with GUIliani. Martin Gassner, Director Sales & Marketing at TES, said: “Working with Renesas has been a great experience and the excellent support from the team there made porting GUIliani onto the MS7724 extremely easy.”

The GUlliani-based software package available now. A fully featured demo version is available for download through www.guiliani.de or with the purchase or a SH7724 development kit.

Machine Learning on the Edge
Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Infineon
Edge machine learning is a great way to allow embedded devices to run applications that can collect sensor data and locally process that data. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Clark Jarvis from Infineon explore how the IMAGIMOB Studio, ModusToolbox™ Software, and PSoC and AURIX™ microcontrollers can help you develop a custom machine learning on the edge application from scratch. They also investigate how the IMAGIMOB Studio can help you easily develop and deploy AI/ML models and the benefits that the PSoC™ 6 Artificial Intelligence Evaluation Kit will bring to your next machine learning on the edge application design process.
