Xilinx to Demonstrate and Discuss FPGA and Embedded Processing Innovation at NIWeek 2011

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 27, 2011 – Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced its participation in NIWeek 2011, hosted by longtime customer and Xilinx Alliance Program member National Instruments on August 2-4 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas (booth #637).

Xilinx CTO, Ivo Bolsens, will deliver the opening keynote for ‘The Future of System Design Symposium’ on Tuesday morning, and Xilinx CEO, Moshe Gavrielov, will present awards that evening to industry and academic winners of the inaugural Xilinx LabVIEW FPGA Innovation Award at theGraphical Design Achievement Awards ceremony.  On Wednesday morning, Xilinx Senior Vice President, Vin Ratford, will join NI executives, customers and partners onstage as part of the vision and roadmap keynote session to provide an introduction and demonstration of the company’s Zynq-7000™ Extensible Processing Platform.

Throughout the week, Xilinx will demonstrate and discuss FPGA and embedded processing innovation in technical sessions, theater presentations and demonstrations

The Future of System Design Symposium Keynote

This new symposium brings together leading researchers, industry providers, and designers to explore the future of system design. Learn about the latest system design technologies and research including processors and FPGA convergence, high-level synthesis tools and flows, and approaches for increasing design productivity.

Bolsens will introduce some of the critical hardware innovations transforming the landscape of system design that present opportunities for innovation as well as significant challenges for software development. Learn how processor and FPGA technologies are converging to provide new functionality as well as how hardware and software design tools must adapt to these new advances.

LabVIEW FPGA Innovation Award

Presented by Gavrielov, the Xilinx-sponsored LabVIEW FPGA Innovation Award will be given to the industry and academic papers that detail the most innovative applications using LabVIEW system design software to program the FPGA in NI hardware including PXI-based R Series modules and NI CompactRIO, NI FlexRIO, or NI Single-board RIO devices. The winning papers will describe an application that takes advantage of the FPGA resources to build a unique solution and boost overall system performance.

Xilinx Senior Manager of IP Design Methodology Marketing, Tim Vanevenhoven, will discuss how the company has standardized its tools and IP on open industry standards to enable an easy-to-use delivery mechanism for Xilinx IP, third-party ecosystem IP and a customer-developed IP.

Addressing the Technical Bandwidth Challenges in Embedded Industrial Applications

FPGAs are quickly becoming one of the primary solutions for solving the technical bandwidth challenges historically solved with DSPs and microprocessors. In this session, Xilinx ISM Business Development Manager, Keith Nesrsta, will explain the benefits of using FPGA-based solutions for embedded industrial applications such as safety, control algorithms, and industrial networking.

Embedded Processing Solutions for Industrial Applications

Xilinx Industrial Marketing Manager, Yvonne Lin, will describe a flexible approach to custom electronic system design through the integration of traditional processor systems and FPGAs.

Demonstrations

Throughout the week, Xilinx will provide demonstrations at Xilinx booth #637, as follows:

  • Zynq-7000 Extensible Processing Platform demo – Xilinx will demonstrate FPGA and embedded processor programmability in a single system-on-a-chip (SOC) utilizing  LabVIEW.
  • Ultrasound Demo – Xilinx will showcase rapid prototyping using NI PXI hardware and NI FlexRIO FPGA modules.
  • Academic Digital Design Solution – Xilinx will demonstrate a hands-on design, simulation, and analysis performed in LabVIEW software targeting Xilinx technology.
