Nominations for EDA Industry’s Annual Phil Kaufman Award Open Through June 30

SAN JOSE, Calif. and NEW YORK —  May 18, 2011 — Nominations are being accepted now through Thursday, June 30, for the Phil Kaufman Award for Distinguished Contributions to Electronic Design Automation (EDA) sponsored by the EDA Consortium (EDAC) and the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA).

Last year’s recipient was Pasquale (Pat) O. Pistilli, chairman of MP Associates of Louisville, Colo., who pioneered the EDA industry and built the Design Automation Conference as its premiere showcase and networking platform.

The award, to be presented at a dinner ceremony in October in Silicon Valley, Calif., recognizes individuals whose contributions made an impact within EDA in business, industry direction, promotion, technology and engineering, educational or mentoring.  Areas of technology and engineering impact have been expanded this year to include:  analog and RF; architecture, structures and FPGA; embedded systems; formal verification; design; design for manufacturing; intellectual property; layout; simulation; synthesis; and test.  Impartiality is provided to all nominees, without regard to race, gender, age or national origin.

Established in 1994, the award is in honor of EDA industry pioneer Phil Kaufman, who turned innovative technologies such as silicon compilation and emulation into businesses that have benefited electronic designers.

The nomination form can be found at:  http://www.edac.org/about_kaufman_award.jsp#nominations

About the EDA Consortium

The EDA Consortium is the international association of companies that provide design tools and services that enable engineers to create the world’s electronic products used for communications, computer, space technology, medical, automotive, industrial equipment, and consumer electronics markets among others. For more information about the EDA Consortium, visit www.edac.org.

About the IEEE Council on EDA

The IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) provides a focal point for EDA activities spread across six IEEE societies (Antennas and Propagation; Circuits and Systems; Computer; Electron Devices; Microwave Theory and Techniques; and Solid State Circuits).  It sponsors more than 12 conferences, including the Design Automation Conference (DAC), International Conference in CAD (ICCAD) and Design Automation and Test in Europe (DATE).  CEDA publishes IEEE Transactions on CAD and the IEEE Embedded Systems Letters.  CEDA is increasingly involved in recognizing its leaders via the A. Richard Newton Award, Early Career Award and Phil Kaufmann Award.  CEDA welcomes volunteers and local chapters.  For more information, go to: www.c-eda.org.

High Power Charging Inlets
All major truck and bus OEMs will be launching electric vehicle platforms within the next few years and in order to keep pace with on-highway and off-highway EV innovation, our charging inlets must also provide the voltage, current and charging requirements needed for these vehicles. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Drew Reetz from TE Connectivity investigate charging inlet design considerations for the next generation of industrial and commercial transportation, the differences between AC only charging and fast charge and high power charging inlets, and the benefits that TE Connectivity’s ICT high power charging inlets bring to these kinds of designs.
