IAR Systems supports new metrology devices from Texas Instruments

Uppsala, SWEDEN—April 27, 2011—IAR Systems, independent provider of software development tools for embedded systems, today announced that IAR Embedded Workbench now supports the MSP430AFE2xx series of metrology devices recently launched by Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI).

IAR Embedded Workbench for MSP430™ microcontrollers (MCU) includes complete support for each of the devices in the MSP430AFE2xx series. In combination with advanced global and MSP430 MCU-specific optimizations for speed and memory footprint, IAR Embedded Workbench offers a powerful toolsuite for metering applications such as electricity meters, sub-metering and energy saving systems.

“Smart metering and energy saving systems is a very important market for IAR Systems and we see continuous interest and growth among our many customers in this sector” says Stefan Skarin, CEO and President, IAR Systems. “Our customers use a wide variety of MCU architectures from different chip vendors for these types of applications and we are delighted to support also this new series of MCUs intended for smart metering. Engineers now have a variety of attractive MCU alternatives to choose between while standardizing on IAR Embedded Workbench. ”

“TI’s customers have high requirements on development tools and IAR Embedded Workbench provides an excellent supporting software solution,” says Jennifer Barry, Product Marketing MSP430 MCUs, TI. “The new metrology devices in combination with the toolsuite from IAR Systems constitute a very powerful platform for metering companies, both the established corporations and the many startups that we see.”

IAR Embedded Workbench is a set of C and C++ tools for building and debugging embedded applications. It provides a completely integrated development environment including a project manager, editor, build tools and debugger. In a continuous workflow, source files and projects can be created, built and debugged on hardware or in a simulator.

IAR Systems is the world’s leading supplier of software tools for embedded systems that enable large and small companies to develop premium products based on 8-, 16-, and 32-bit microcontrollers, mainly in the areas of industrial automation, medical devices, consumer electronics and automotive products. IAR Systems has an extensive network of partners and cooperates with the world’s leading semiconductor vendors. Established in 1983, IAR Systems is part of the Intoi Group since 2005.
