Green Hills Software announces second EAL6+/SKPP, high robustness certification by NSA for INTEGRITY-178B operating system

Green Hills Software, the worldwide leader in high assurance operating systems that are FAA/EASA-certified and NSA-evaluated, has announced that the latest baseline of its INTEGRITY®-178B multi-level secure real-time operating system (version 4), has been certified by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), a U.S. government initiative operated by the National Security Agency (NSA), to Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 6+, High Robustness.

This is the second time that NIAP and the NSA have rigorously evaluated and successfully certified the INTEGRITY-178B RTOS according to the requirements defined in the US Government’s Separation Kernel Protection Profile (SKPP). While other RTOS vendors continue to make security certification promises or claims of having a “certifiable” product, Green Hills Software continues its proven and verifiable track record of actually delivering EAL6+/SKPP and DO-178B Level A-compliant operating systems and components to customers and certification authorities using its own dedicated organization of high assurance software experts.

More on INTEGRITY-178B

Green Hills Software’s continuing US Government certifications of its INTEGRITY-178B RTOS against the SKPP further empowers information assurance products of all assurance levels. As the foundation of secure computing platforms, the latest version of INTEGRITY-178B enables development of advanced security applications critical to defence, aerospace, communications, automotive, rail, utility, medical, and banking information control requirements, including data guards, firewalls, routers, data filters, and controlled access. The INTEGRITY-178B RTOS enables system architects and developers to significantly reduce size, weight, power and cost by allowing multiple applications at different security levels to run securely and separately on a single microprocessor. Traditionally, developers have had to resort to using two or more or microprocessors to run multiple applications at different security levels.

In addition to INTEGRITY-178B’s comprehensive set of high assurance OS interfaces for the development of MLS applications in a partition, the latest version of INTEGRITY-178B, certified by the NSA, now includes high assurance application support for ARINC-653 APEX, C, C++, and Ada language based applications; and provides the environment for additional high assurance capabilities such as a Journaling File System, UDP/IP network stack, and TFTP. By taking advantage of the INTEGRITY-178B’s highly capable and flexible partitioning support (e.g., resource and application isolation in support of hosting varying assurance levels), system integrators can now also incorporate other INTEGRITY-178B layered options, including full C/C++/Ada95 language support, POSIX support, and a TCP/IP IPv4/IPv6 networking option that includes the host stack, advanced router stack, Net-SNMP stack and other networking related capabilities.

In the last ten years, INTEGRITY-178B has been adopted and deployed by critical U.S. defence systems and commercial avionics. Modern aircraft systems and communication systems that depend on INTEGRITY-178B’s proven partitioning, security and safety properties include Lockheed Martin’s F-22, F-35, C-130J, Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle, and GPS III satellites; Boeing’s 787 (including both the Flight Control System and Integrated Surveillance System), 737, 757, 767 and C-17; Airbus’ A380 and A400M; Sikorsky’s S-92 and CH-148; and Northrop Grumman’s B-2.

About Green Hills Software

Founded in 1982, Green Hills Software is the largest independent vendor of embedded development solutions. In 2008, the Green Hills INTEGRITY-178B RTOS was the first and only operating system to be certified by NIAP (National Information Assurance Partnership comprised of NSA & NIST) to EAL6+, High Robustness, the highest level of security ever achieved for any software product. Our open architecture integrated development solutions address deeply embedded, absolute security and high-reliability applications for the military/avionics, medical, industrial, automotive, networking, consumer and other markets that demand industry-certified solutions. Quantized Neural Networks for FPGA Inference

Sponsored by Intel

Implementing a low precision network in FPGA hardware for efficient inferencing provides numerous advantages when it comes to meeting demanding specifications. The increased flexibility allows optimization of throughput, overall power consumption, resource usage, device size, TOPs/watt, and deterministic latency. These are important benefits where scaling and efficiency are inherent requirements of the application.
