Option and InterDigital showcase new Bandwidth Management solution at Mobile World Congress

LEUVEN, Belgium and BARCELONA, Spain – February 14, 2011 – Option (EURONEXT: OPTI; OTC: OPNVY), the wireless technology company, and InterDigital® (NASDAQ: IDCC), a U.S. based leading developer of wireless technologies, today announced the demonstration of an innovative bandwidth management software integrated with Option’s uCAN® Connect software platform at the Mobile World Congress being held in Barcelona, Spain February 14 – 17.

While mobile users are using more and more applications that consume even more bandwidth, operators are looking for solutions to manage this growing demand for bandwidth and to keep their network performance up. This bandwidth management solution, developed by InterDigital in cooperation with Attila Technologies, includes software that allows devices to communicate simultaneously with multiple wireless networks to match network performance to application requirements in real-time.  This intelligent connection increases coverage, reliability, security, and aggregates the available bandwidth to the sum of all networks combined.  This bandwidth management solution is seamlessly integrated into Option’s uCAN Connect software platform.

This approach provides an answer to the operator’s problem with an intelligent optimization of the total available bandwidth, all without any intervention by the user.  The operator will also have the opportunity to offload traffic from licensed to unlicensed spectrum in a controlled way.  From an end user point of view, bandwidth management can also provide a rich multimedia experience using simultaneous transmission over two or more Internet connections combined.  In case of heavy traffic load or signal degradation of the selected mobile network, the solution will still ensure the best possible user experience, based on network conditions.

The technology suite will also be available as a separate software feature for the uCAN Connect software platform.  In the first phase, the technology will be available for the desktop environment (for different form factors such as USB modems, data cards and embedded modules) and, later on, be extended to different types of connected devices.  This solution for bandwidth management represents a concrete result of the strategic partnership between InterDigital and Option, focused on delivering innovative software and development services, announced at the end of 2010.
