Spreadtrum Standardizes on Cadence Design Flow and Achieves One-Pass Silicon Realization for Its First 40nm Product

SHANGHAI, Jan. 20, 2011 – Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), a leader in global electronic design innovation, today announced that Spreadtrum Communications (NASDAQ: SPRD), a leading provider of baseband and RF processor solutions for the wireless communications market headquartered in Shanghai, migrated to the Cadence® Silicon Realization flow and successfully taped out its first 40-nanometer low-power chipThe chip, a GSM/GPRS/EDGE/TD-SCDMA/HSPA mobile phone baseband, was taped out with one-pass silicon success.

As one of the biggest Chinese fabless companies, Spreadtrum has been seeking greater predictability and efficiencies that will lead to a shorter time to market. By adopting Cadence-centric Silicon Realization EDA solutions, Spreadtrum gained the advantages of time to market.

The Cadence-centric Silicon Realization EDA tools Spreadtrum adopted include Encounter® Digital Implementation System, RTL Compiler, Conformal® Low Power, Incisive® Enterprise Simulator, Encounter® Test, Encounter® Timing System, Virtuoso® Custom Design, Multi-mode Simulation, QRC Extraction, Encounter Power System and design-for-manufacturing technologies.
