Agilent Technologies’ Expanded HDMI Test Solution Portfolio on Display at CEA 861/HDCP PlugFest13

Latest Additions Increase Efficiencies, Lower Cost, Address Requirements of the HDMI 1.4 Specification

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 9, 2009 — Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that its enhanced High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) test solution portfolio is being demonstrated at the CEA 861/HDCP PlugFest13, Nov. 8-13, in Burlingame, Calif. The expanded solution enables engineers to test the new features introduced by the HDMI Specification 1.4 such as HEAC (HDMI Ethernet and Audio Return Channel) support or 4K x 2K and 3-D video format support. The test solution also increases efficiencies, reduces development costs and provides highly accurate test results.

Agilent has been involved with HDMI since the standard was first established to help companies meet compliance testing and address the challenges presented by this technology. The company is committed to contributing its expertise to advance HDMI and to continue working with the industry’s Authorized Test Centers (ATCs) to offer a complete and reliable test platform. This effort will ultimately help build better consumer electronics products. Almost every ATC uses Agilent’s HDMI platform to test products and identify problems, measure data, and determine whether tests have passed or failed.

Benefits of the Agilent HDMI complete test platform include:

ο Modular, powerful, cost-efficient HEAC (HDMI Ethernet and Audio Return Channel) test upgrade with Agilent’s powerful, highly flexible 81150A pattern generator and Infiniium oscilloscopes. The 81150A allows glitch-free, on-the-fly variation of timing parameters. This modular approach for HEAC test does not block expensive test resources as these tests can be performed independent of a TMDS signal generator.

ο Unique test automation with broadest test coverage using the N5990A software controlling TMDS signal generator, N5998A, oscilloscope and complementary Quantum Data 882EA (for EDID, CEC and HDCP test).

Agilent’s HDMI test platform includes the following products:

ο The Agilent Infiniium 90000A Series oscilloscopes with the N5399A compliance test software. Offers the deepest acquisition memory (1Gpts) and the first hardware/software integrated triggering system (InfiniiScan Plus).

ο The 81150A pattern generator. Provides clean and distorted HEAC stimulus signals for HEAC receiver testing.

ο The ParBERT 81250 based E4887A TMDS signal generator. Includes cable emulators and provides TMDS clock and data signals with low intrinsic jitter, fast edges up to 7 Gb/s and independent clock and data jitter insertion.

ο The N5998A protocol/audio/video generator and analyzer. Offers the only high speed audio/video protocol generator and analyzer.

ο The N5990A test automation software platform. Designed to automate overall HDMI compliance testing and for in-depth device characterization.

ο The N1080A test point access assemblies/fixtures and the E5071C network analyzer.

“We have the knowledge and history of developing tools that focus on the physical, data-link and protocol layers of HDMI,” said Thomas Dippon, HDMI program manager at Agilent. “And, Agilent is an active member of the HDMI Organization, so we’re constantly abreast of the standards and compliance issues facing our industry. This keeps us poised to help our customers and partners meet the opportunities and challenges presented by HDMI.”
