BYOD or BYOM to Synaptics’ AI-Native Edge Compute Party

I have two questions for you. First, what are the three key elements of any platform intended for the internet of things (IoT) and edge computing, both of which are where the internet “rubber” meets the real-world “road”? Second, what springs to your mind when you hear someone drop the company Synaptics into the conversation?

Let’s start with the second question first … Read More → "BYOD or BYOM to Synaptics’ AI-Native Edge Compute Party"

Digital Signal Processing and the AI Architecture Evolution

This week’s Fish Fry podcast is all about digital signal processing! Pulin Desai (Cadence Design Systems) joins me to chat about recent developments in vision, radar and lidar applications, AI inference trends that are driving the need for flexible and programmable digital signal processing, and why DSPs are indispensable in the new world of artificial intelligence. Also this week, I check out a new PCB prototype developed at … Read More → "Digital Signal Processing and the AI Architecture Evolution"

LDRA’s New Security-First Capabilities Meet Missions to Mars and Colonies in Space

I don’t know about you, but I’m really starting to get excited about all the space-related activities that are going on at the moment. I remember the thrill of Apollo 11 and humankind’s first steps on the moon. And I remember the sadness associated with my eventually coming to the realization that the Apollo 17 landing in 1972 would be the last time we visited the moon … Read More → "LDRA’s New Security-First Capabilities Meet Missions to Mars and Colonies in Space"

ST rolls a new FD-SOI microcontroller with phase-change memory (PCM) for automotive applications

Like a battered and bruised prizefighter, phase-change memory (PCM) refuses to stay down or give up the fight. Although it got a black eye and bloody nose from its Micron 3D XPoint and Intel Optane misadventures, PCM has found its way into microcontrollers, thanks to a collaboration between STMicroelectronics (ST) and Samsung. Back in 2018, STRead More → "ST rolls a new FD-SOI microcontroller with phase-change memory (PCM) for automotive applications"

Achieve Greater Design Flexibility and Reduce Costs with Chiplets

Sponsored by Keysight

Chiplets are a new way to build a system-on-chips (SoCs) to improve yields and reduce costs. It partitions the chip into discrete elements and connects them with a standardized interface, enabling designers to meet performance, efficiency, power, size, and cost challenges in the 5 / 6G, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR) era. This white paper will discuss the shift to chiplet adoption and Keysight EDA's implementation of the communication standard (UCIe) into the Keysight Advanced Design System (ADS).

Really? That’s very depressing. That said, since I’m using a digital input/analog output architecture that mimics an advanced neuromorphic design, the CXL sounds like one possible solution to my memory problems - but then my doctor says that at my age, I just need to get more ...

Ya gotta "laugh while you can," Tacitus.

For this “monkeyboy”, one “fud” (Phd) is usually just like another, but I must admit I certainly pay attention when you begin your article by quoting the august Dr. Emilio Lizardo! Bravo!

Hi Henrik -- your Vision AppKit is perfect -- just what I'm looking for -- I wrote about your Ensemble AI-MCU family a few weeks ago https://www.eejournal.com/article/new-mcus-provide-102-the-performance-at-10-2-the-power/ The combination of your chip and the miniature camera on that tiny Vision AppKit board ...

Hi Max, I think we here at Alif semiconductor can help you with this! I have an application that detects faces running on our tiny Vision AppKit, if you think that would work I'd be happy to send you one :-) Demo here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

A subset of this EDA acquisition game has been the development of FPGA tools. NeoCAD did the tools for AT&T's clones of Xilinx FPGAs, doing it so well it embarrassed Xilinx, so they acquired them. I still have the NeoCAD coffee cup.
