Agilent Technologies and Granite River Labs Test Solution Certified by SATA-IO

SANTA CLARA and MENLO PARK, Calif., June 22, 2010 — Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and Granite River Labs (GRL) today announced that the Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) has approved GRL to provide SATA Interoperability Program Revision 1.4 product testing and certification using the Agilent SATA test solution. The test platform includes tools for transmitter and receiver characterization as well as automated test software.

SATA-IO develops, manages and drives adoption of the Serial ATA specifications. SATA is the industry-standard interface used to manage data transmission between system boards and storage devices on personal computers, laptops and server systems. Devices that use the latest version of the SATA Specification Revision 3.0 can transfer data at speeds up to 6 Gbps, which is twice as fast as the previous version of the specification.

The SATA Interoperability Program was established to ensure compatibility and interoperability of the SATA Specification in product implementations. Companies that participate in the Interoperability Program demonstrate a desire to support industry compatibility and are rewarded with a listing on the SATA-IO “Integrators List” when their products pass the testing. Companies may have their products tested at approved independent test labs.

Granite River Labs provides test services, test solutions and equipment support to help its clients comply with high-speed connectivity standards. GRL consistently teams with companies that are leaders in providing the best solutions in the market and that share a commitment to solving their clients’ test needs.

“When developers are working on cutting-edge designs, having advance access to measurements helps them address potential issues early in the design cycle and get products to market faster,” said Min-Jie Chong, program manager for SATA applications at Agilent. “Agilent offers a full range of SATA test capabilities to help customers accelerate SATA 6-Gbps tests. We are excited to work with Granite River Labs on this development.”

“GRL is pleased to be certified as an independent test lab for Serial ATA by the SATA-IO,” said Mike Engbretson, chief technology engineer at Granite River Labs. “Agilent’s complete test solution for Serial ATA provides us with the tools we need to perform all the physical layer tests required in Revision 1.4 of the specification quickly and accurately.”

Agilent’s equipment for SATA test includes the DSAX91604A Infiniium oscilloscope, the 81134A pulse pattern generatorJ-BERT N4903A/B high-performance serial BERT, the 86100D DCA-X wide-bandwidth oscilloscope and the N5990A test automation software platform from Agilent’s partner BitifEye Digital Test Solutions.
