Twenty-nine new Stellaris® MCUs from TI deliver unparalleled memory, connectivity and package options

New Stellaris ARM® Cortex™-M3 MCUs – plus reduced pricing across the platform – drive innovation for energy, security and connectivity markets

Austin, TX (October 21, 2009) – Providing developers with greater flexibility to meet embedded design requirements, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced the expansion and reduced pricing of its Stellaris ARM Cortex™-M3-based microcontroller (MCU) family. Twenty-nine new Stellaris MCUs include unique IP for motion control applications, intelligent analog functionality and expanded advanced connectivity options to provide a broad range of price/performance solutions for industrial applications. The portfolio also offers extended memory range pin-compatibility, along with new compact packages for space and cost savings. Due to efficiencies resulting from the Stellaris MCU integration into TI’s economies of scale, an immediate price reduction averaging 13 percent across the Stellaris family is also effective immediately. Each device is supported by TI’s comprehensive StellarisWare® software to speed development of applications in the energy, security and connectivity markets. Pin-compatible flexibility in memory sizes and extended connectivity:
LM3S1000 series: Eight new MCUs with high pin count, general purpose real-time processing
LM3S3000 series: Five new MCUs with USB device, USB Host/Device and USB On-the-Go (OTG) support
LM3S5000 series: 14 new MCUs with USB device, USB Host/Device and USB OTG support, along with Bosch 2.0 A/B CAN support
LM3S9000 series: Two new MCUs with 10/100 Ethernet MAC+PHY, USB OTG and Bosch 2.0 A/B CAN
StellarisWare software in ROM to conserve flash, save time and ease development
Up to 80 MHz clock speeds
Optimized memory performance with single cycle flash and SRAM access up to 50 MHz
Motion control options including QEI, PWMs and direct motion control FAULT signals

Pricing and availability

The 29 new Stellaris MCUs start at $2 (1Ku in distribution) and are now available in limited samples with general sampling in December 2009 and production quantities in 1Q2010. Stellaris LM3Sxxx series MCUs in the new 48-lead QFN small form-factor package are available immediately subject to standard lead time guidelines.
