QuickLogic Extends Battery Life with Display Power Optimizer (DPO) Proven System Block

– Next generation intelligent display management that radically lowers power consumption while significantly improving display quality in all viewing conditions

– Directly drives Pulse Width Modulator for autonomous control of display brightness

Sunnyvale, CA – October 21, 2009 – Demonstrating its continued commitment to the mobile market, QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK) today announced its new intelligent Display Power Optimizer (DPO) Proven System Block (PSB). DPO is designed to work in conjunction with QuickLogic’s second generation Visual Enhancement Engine (VEE™ v2.0) to deliver the best of both worlds – a single-chip solution that provides a TV-quality viewing experience and up to an 80% reduction in backlight power usage.

“Mobile multimedia such as Hulu and YouTube is overwhelming the bandwidth of cellular networks and, at the same time, overtaxing the power budgets of battery powered devices that are not optimized to support this new, ‘Always-on’ world,” said Brian Faith, QuickLogic’s vice president of worldwide marketing. “With our new solution that couples DPO and VEE technology in a single chip, consumers can get the battery life they need with the visual experience they desire.”

QuickLogic’s VEE PSB is based on proven, patented technology licensed from Apical Limited. This technology is designed to provide TV-like video quality in all lighting conditions, including direct sunlight, yet reduce backlight power by as much as 80%. VEE not only examines the video bit stream in real time on a pixel-by-pixel basis, it also runs comparative algorithms to insure the integrity of the original content is maintained and the images are scientifically optimized in accordance with how the human visual system works.

Both the VEE v2.0 and the DPO PSBs are available for inclusion in Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSPs) developed by QuickLogic. The flexibility of the PSBs allows QuickLogic to individually tune the VEE and DPO proven system blocks to a customer’s specific display, backlight and application processor design.

Availability
The DPO PSB option is immediately available on all QuickLogic platforms that offer the VEE v2.0 PSB, including the ArcticLink® II VX family.
