RGS Debuts Digital Learning System for the 21st Century Classroom

ISTE 2014

PHOENIX— June 26, 2014  — RGS, a business unit of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today introduced the 1:1 Learning System – Chromebook™ with Wi-Fi for the 21st century classroom. RGS will demonstrate the new high-performance solution, which includes hardware, services and digital content provided by global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH), at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) 2014 Conference in Atlanta, June 28-July 1, booth #1226.

The 1:1 Learning System – Chromebook™ with Wi-Fi is the inaugural product in RGS’s digital education portfolio that targets the growing need among school districts today to more effectively make the connection between technology in the classroom and learning efficacy. Digital learning is a core element of the 21st century classroom, a new model in education designed to make our nation’s schools more competitive, and improve the education experience by making it personal and dynamic. RGS can help schools develop a cost-effective and flexible end-to-end learning program, including hardware, educational content and strategic services.

“As quaint as the historical image of the one-room school house may be, those days are long gone. School districts today are being challenged to very quickly implement these highly connected ‘21st century classrooms’ that are not just about using technology, but really adopting an entirely new teaching paradigm,” said Scott MacDonald, vice president and general manager, RGS. “With the 1:1 Learning System – Chromebook™ with Wi-Fi, as well as crucial services like professional development and training, educators get everything they need to transform their classrooms into interactive student-centered learning environments.”

The comprehensive 1:1 Learning System – Chromebook™ with Wi-Fi solution includes hardware, digital content from global learning company Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH), including core curricula, assessments and teacher resources, as well as a range of strategic services addressing professional development, technical support and asset life cycle management. The systems meet the content requirements of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC), Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), and the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).

“To really deliver upon the promise of technology in education, we need to look beyond the device and approach the transformation of teaching and learning holistically,” added Dan Cavalli, senior vice president of special sales at HMH. “No two classrooms or districts are the same. Our partnership with RGS allows us to deliver customized digital content that is fully integrated with devices, technology services and professional development, enabling all education stakeholders to truly benefit from the power of digital tools.”
