Mentor Graphics Announces FloEFD Frontloading Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Award Winners for 2016

FloEFD SIMULATION CONFERENCE, FRANKFURT, GERMANY, November 10, 2016— Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced the winners of its first annual Frontloading Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Award. This award recognizes individuals who have successfully implemented the practice of moving CFD simulation early into their design process using Mentor Graphics® award-winning FloEFD™ technology. This methodology reduces overall simulation time by as much as 65-75 percent, optimizing product performance and reliability, reducing physical prototyping, and development costs.

A panel of judges including Alexander Sobachkin, product line director, Gennady Dumnov, deputy director and Alexey Kharitonovich, product manager for the FloEFD product line, selected the finalists based on submission criteria. Entrants were required to demonstrate the application of frontloading CFD with quantifiable results through published or publicly presented documentation. This included published technical and conference papers, PowerPoint presentations, articles, videos and/or website content that is accessible to the public.

The First Place Award winner is Dr. Aihua Wang, thermal engineer, automotive lighting at Magneti Marelli for her presentation delivered at IESF in 2015 titled, Integrating Thermal Analysis into Automotive Lighting Product Design. She received a glass trophy and a $1,500 cash prize which will be donated in her name to her chosen charity, the ASPCA.

Two joint runners-up each received $500 and a glass trophy. Mr. Kolio Kojouharov, ex-engineer at Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH, received his award for his presentation titled, Design and Integration of Cooling Systems and Power Packs/Powertrains to Meet the Next Environmental (Tier IV) Regulations. He presented this paper at the October 2015 Mentor Graphics U2U in Munich, Germany. The second runner-up, Mr. Georg Jäger, is an engineer at Hovalwerk AG in Liechtenstein. His paper titled, From Conceptual Brainstorming to a Customized Condensing Boiler, was written for presentation at the 2016 FloEFD Simulation Conference in Frankfurt, Germany.

“Mentor Graphics has been a driving force in promoting frontloading CFD and our award-winning FloEFD technology has been instrumental in optimizing the performance of products while saving critical design time,” stated Roland Feldhinkel, general manager of Mentor Graphics Mechanical Analysis Division. “I congratulate our 2016 winners of the FloEFD Frontloading CFD award and I am impressed by their efforts in improving workflow productivity in manufactured products.”
