Fairchild’s Tiny, Low-Power USB Type-C Solution Makes Debut in LeTV’s New Smartphone Family

SAN JOSE, Calif. – May 18, 2015 – Fairchild (NASDAQ: FCS), a leading global supplier of high-performance semiconductor solutions, today announced that its first commercial USB Type-C devices are shipping in LeTV’s newly launched Le 1, Le 1 Pro and Le MAX series smartphones. Fairchild’s latest USB solution integrates all key features of the new Type-C connector in an amazingly tiny 1.2mm x 1.2mm WLCSP package. Small footprint and extremely low standby power operation makes the solution ideal for the next wave of mobile products, dongles, travel adapters, PCs, accessories, and wearables which will feature the capabilities of the new USB interface.

“Fairchild delivered a critical solution that saved us considerable board space while meeting all the technical requirements of USB Type-C,” said LeTV President Xing Feng. “From providing samples to working directly with our engineers, the excellent support we received from Fairchild made it possible for us to be first to market with a USB Type-C smartphone that we consider is truly differentiated.”

USB Type-C is backward compatible with USB legacy data protocols and standards, with the added benefit of having the same connector on each end of the cable. This means significantly less fumbling around for the right connector to charge or sync a device. As industry adoption grows consumers will only need one cable for any of their devices, for both data and power connections.

The new USB standard’s footprint helps enable slimmer designs, as evident in LeTV’s new super-thin smartphones boasting close to no bezels around the display. Fairchild devices designed in by LeTV mark the debut of a new small footprint, family of solutions that consume very low power with minimal impact to battery life. They also take advantage of a simple communication interface, making the overall design easier and simpler to implement.

“Fairchild’s expertise in developing lighter, smaller travel adapters and battery chargers for mobile helped LeTV simplify their systems design, reduce board space, and improve system reliability,” said Jin Zhao, Senior Director, Mobile Product Line Business Management, at Fairchild.  “Everyone at Fairchild is delighted to help customers like LeTV deliver industry-firsts.”
