PRO DESIGN Unveils New Virtex® UltraScale™ 440 FPGA Based Prototyping Solution

San Jose, 27 February 2015 – PRO DESIGN, veteran in the E²MS and EDA industry, today announced the launch of its new proFPGA quad VUS 440 System, the next generation of its modular and scalable high performance/capacity FPGA Prototyping solution based on the latest Xilinx Virtex® UltraScale™ FPGA technology.

Assembled with 4 pluggable Xilinx Virtex® UltraScale™ XCVU440 based FPGA modules the quad system offers a capacity of up to 120 M ASIC gates, which is nearly a factor of 2.5 more compared to the previous Virtex® 7 based generation. Up to five proFPGA quad systems with overall 20 FPGA modules can be easily connected together to increase the capacity up to 600 M ASIC gates. The proFPGA quad system has 40 extension sites, with a total of up to 5308 FPGA standard I/Os and 192 high speed serial transceivers, which offers maximum flexibility for interconnections and for adapting standard proFPGA daughter boards or application specific extension boards like DDR4 memory, USB 3.0, SATA, GB Ethernet or PCIe Gen3.

Because of the compact system architecture and the high-end PCB layout with length matched signal lines the proFPGA system offers best signal integrity and maximum system speed of up to 500 MHz. Over the standard I/Os the system achieves a single ended point-to-point performance of up to 1.0 Gbps and via the Multi Gigabit Transceivers (MGTs) even a performance of up to 16 Gbps.

In addition the system is equipped with a smart mechanical construction for most efficient FPGA cooling, high robustness and easy system handling.

The new proFPGA VUS 440 system is fully compatible to the previous proFPGA generation. That means all proFPGA motherboards, FPGA modules, daughter cards and accessories can be used in combination with the new proFPGA XCVU440 FPGA module. This offers existing proFPGA customers a high return on invest. Further it allows the customer to mix and match the new Xilinx Virtex® UltraScale™ FPGA technology with the previous Virtex® 7 and Zynq™ technology in one system.

The system comes with the proFPGA Builder software, which provides an extensive set of features, like advanced clock management, integrated self- and performance test, automatic board detection and I/O voltage programming, system scan- and safety mechanism, and quick remote system configuration and monitoring through USB, Ethernet or PCIe, which simplifies the usage of the proFPGA system tremendously.

“PRO DESIGN’s modular and scalable proFPGA prototyping technology is a great complement to the industry’s largest 20nm FPGA, the Virtex® UltraScale(tm) 440,” mentioned Hanneke Krekels, director of the test, measurement and emulation market segment at Xilinx. “Positioned to provide unprecedented levels of capacity, number of IOs and performance, VU440 customers will be able to leverage joint Xilinx and PRO DESIGN technologies to prototype their latest large ASIC & SoC designs.”

“PRO DESIGN is very excited about the release of its next generation of FPGA based Prototyping systems. We released the proFPGA product line just at the end of 2012 and we already won more than 35 customers in over 10 different countries within such a short time frame. This confirms that the customers accept and like our system concept, which offers a great degree of flexibility while still providing the maximum system performance. As one of the first Prototyping vendors, who has a Xilinx Virtex® UltraScale™ 440 based solution physically available and running, we could demonstrate, that we are again on top on the latest technology and that we can provide a reliable and proven solution that offers a much higher capacity, number of I/Os and system speed compared to the previous products. Our customers will benefit a lot from this new product generation”, said Gunnar Scholl, CEO of PRO DESIGN.

Availability

The proFPGA quad VUS 440 system is available for early adopter customers in April 2015. The general availability will be in Q4 2015.

Demonstration

PRO DESIGN will demonstrate the proFPGA quad VUS 440 system at the DVCon show in San Jose, California at booth #1102, March 2 – 4, 2015 and at the DATE conference in Grenoble, France at booth #15, March 10 – 12, 2015
