Semtech Expands AEC-Q100 Protection Platform with RClamp® 0531TQ; New 5V TVS Protection Device Safeguards High-Speed Automotive Interfaces

CAMARILLO, Calif., November 26, 2014 — Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced the RClamp0531TQ, a high-performance, ultra-low capacitance transient voltage suppression (TVS) device.

The single-line, automotive-qualified RClamp0531TQ offers unparalleled low-clamping voltage performance, an essential requirement for safeguarding the sensitive electronics common in today’s automotive infotainment and telematics systems.

Built on Semtech’s highly differentiated process technologies that achieve the industry’s lowest clamping voltages, the RClamp0531TQ delivers optimal transient protection.   This low-clamping voltage protection performance is critical in an automotive industry where maximum ESD protectionmargin is needed.

Providing the highest confidence in automotive component reliability, the RClamp0531TQ device is qualified to grade 1 of the AEC-Q100 automotive reliability standard.  As a single-line device, the RClamp0531TQ is housed in a small 1.0mm x 0.6mm package, giving designers added flexibility in optimizing their circuit board layout.

“With the rapid increase of electronics in today’s highly connected cars, robust ESD protection is more important to automakers than ever before,” said Rick Hansen, Product Marketing Director for Semtech’s Protection Products.  “The RClamp0531TQ expands Semtech’s growing automotive product family and offers electronics engineers the high reliability and high performance in ESD protection that Semtech is known for.”

Key Features of the RClamp0531TQ

  • Transient protection for high-speed data lines to: IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) ±20kV (air), ±12kV (contact); IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) 40A (5/50ns); IEC 61000-4-5 (lightning) 4A (8/20?s)
  • 5V working voltage protection
  • Protects 1 I/O line
  • Low capacitance (<0.5pF line-to-line)
  • Ultra-small 1.0mm x 0.6mm package
  • Pb Free and RoHS/WEEE compliant

Pricing and Availability

The RClamp0531TQ (order code: RClamp0531TQTCT) is available immediately in production quantities and is priced at $0.36 each in 3,000-piece lots. Semtech offers comprehensive design assistance, including field- and factory-based support.
