The Times They Are A Changin’

Moshe Gavrielov Gets His Zynq On and IBM Rolls Out a Graphene IC

by Amelia Dalton

In this week's Fish Fry, my special guest is Xilinx CEO Moshe Gavrielov who chats with me about their new Zynq embedded processing platform and how he sees this new addition not only changing the course of the Xilinx roadmap going forward but also where he thinks the FPGA industry is headed as a whole.

Also this week, I explore the new Graphene IC unveiled by IBM and check out the Freescale/BMW collaboration that just might make parking our cars just a little bit easier.

And, in keeping with the Xilinx theme, you'll definitely want to get in on the competition for this week's awesome nerdy giveaway - a Spartan-6 LX9 MicroBoard and as usual you'll need to tune in to find out how to win.

If you like the idea of this new series be sure to drop a comment in the box below.

amelia HI Walter,

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. The Avnet Spartan-6 MX9 MicroBoard link works as it should now.

darylspitzer Is there something wrong with the video, or is it supposed to have just a title graphic through the whole thing after the intro (with the sscilloscope dial, gas burner and frying fish)? If it's meant to be audio only, could you make this available as a podcast please?

Hi There,

I have been enjoying listening to engineering podcasts, videos while I am on the road using my android device. I have been trying to add fish fry to the list or regular listening however the current format and access is making it difficult. Here are some issues, suggestions that would make it much easier to access fish fry content.

* The fish fry RSS feed keeps updating with all of the eejournal article.
- It would be great if there were a separate feed for fish fry only.

* Just recently when trying to access fish fry from my phone I get the error: "The creator of this video has not given you permissionto embed it on this domain. This is a vimeo plus feature."
- I have tried to remedy this by searching vimeo directly to find the video, but there are no results. It appears that fish fry is not searchable on vimeo direclty.

* As Daryl mentioned. Making the content audio only would be greatly beneficial, especially when accessing the content on mobile devices.

Looking forward to streaming this content on my phone soon.

Thanks

When will there be any real information out on the Zynq 7000? Everything I am seeing just takes me back to the glossy high-level overviews. Nothing about how to start developing for this device. Will the FPGA be tied in through PCIe? Memory-mapped? Something else? I'd like to start at least some high-level architecture decisions now.
